Engagement

March 6, 2006 4:37 pm - By: Jamie

Friday March 3 at the center of Disneyland, right in front of Sleeping Beauties castle, Christopher got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Everything was great, all the way down to the pouring down rain that adds to the memory. The adventure started Friday morning on our way to Disneyland. When I got in the car there was an envelope on the dash with a heart on it that read “Clue #1.” Christopher had intended to give me a clue that would lead me to different locations in the park. When we got to the location he would explain the significance of the location. Then I would get another envelope that I would be able to open at the end when I earned all four envelopes that would lead me to my last clue. Murphy’s Law had other intentions! When we left Lake Elsinore it was not raining, as we got closer to Disneyland it started drizzling. The closer and closer we got to Disneyland the harder it rained. We stopped at the Taco Bell by the park to eat and pass time hoping the rain would lighten up. We thought our plan had worked. The rain was slowing down and we started to see blue skies break through.

We made our way to the park. Christopher’s plan was to take a picture at each of the locations that he led me too. Because of the rain we could not make it to the first location: Tom Sawyer’s Island. Instead we were going to take a picture over by the ferry that would have taken us to the island. As we headed over to the ferry our luck ran out. The rain returned and Chris took me inside a shop instead and he explained the significance of Tom Sawyer’s Island. There is a strong fort on the island that represents a strong foundation and home.

Chris then gave me my second clue. When I figured out that I was supposed go under the San Francisco bridge in California Adventure we started heading into that direction in the rain. By the time we got to the candy shop it was pouring down raining and we sought refuge in the candy shop. At that point Chris decided to sit me down and figure out all my clues rather than walking in the rain to each location.

My second clue was supposed to lead me to California Screaming in California Adventure. The roller coaster represents the fast times, slow times, ups and downs but in the end when we get off the ride we got through it all and had a good time.

My third clue was supposed to lead me back to Disneyland’s Art Gallery. The Art Gallery represents the fact that life is always changing, but even though it is changing roots of history still exist.

My fourth clue was supposed to lead me to the Monorail in Disneyland. From the park the monorail takes you to the Disneyland Resort Hotel. Chris referred to this clue as the gateway to memories. We have a lot of memories surrounding the waterfalls around the hotel that date back to even before we started dating when we were just friends.

After figuring out my four clues and Chris explaining the significance I got to open my four finals clues that lead me to the finals destination. The four clues for the final destination were compass rose, middle of Disneyland, Snow White and Cinderella. In reality Chris meant Sleeping Beauty rather than Cinderella, he thought it was Cinderella’s castle. By this time the rain had let up again and we headed over to my final destination which was the center of the compass rose in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

Chris gave me one more envelope. Inside the envelope I found the first love letter that Chris had ever written me. At the end of the letter Chris had the lyrics to the song, “Check Yes or No.” While in the candy shop Chris gave me a pen and told me I was going to need it later. I took out the pen and circled YES!! When I look up Chris is on one knee and he asked me to marry him! Christopher did an amazing job and I felt like a princess with an amazingly creative Prince. My Prince even informed the Disneyland photographer that he was about to propose to me as I read my letter. The photographer caught the moment on camera, so now you can enjoy our special moment also.

Not only was my proposal amazing but it was the perfect weekend. Friday night we went to the Cinderella play by the Christian Youth Theater. The rest of the weekend we spent telling friends and family. We received many congratulations a few its about times and some high pitched squeals. Saturday morning we spent time with Christopher’s family. Saturday night I had my last Marshall Semi formal. At the semi-formal I got the chance to tell a lot of friends. Sunday we went up to Lancaster and shared the news with my family up there.

Now that we are engaged comes the planning of the wedding. Which will be easier thanks to the family tradition engagement gift of a wedding planner that Chris’ mom gave us. We have not yet set a date. All we know at this point is we are looking at sometime between 1.5 to 2.5 years. By the end of summer we should have a lot better of an idea as to when and where the wedding will be. Be sure to check back from time to time for updates.

Enjoy the pictures from Disneyland and the pictures we took at the formal on Saturday night.
